The Virginia Conference Board of Discipleship creates partnerships with local churches by providing a network of experience, knowledge and coaching through intentional connection to enhance or create effective disciple making processes. These partnerships are created by:

• Coaching at local levels and pulling in identified district and conference resources as needed.
• Training at district or regional levels.
• Drawing on best practices gathered locally, jurisdictionally, nationally and globally.
• Connecting mentor/resource churches with those who request assistance and information.
• Organizing in regional teams.

The Board of Discipleship consists of:
• a small directing board to set the vision for disciple-making ministries in the Annual Conference and to support and monitor the work of
• 5 Regional Discipling Network Teams resourced by
• research on best practices, gathered and distributed by a Conference Awareness Team at events and through all other forms of communication.

The age-level councils for youth, young adults, and older adults fall under the Board of Discipleship but have their individual sections of the website which can be found on the menu at the left.

The Bishop's Foundation is connected to the Board of Discipleship by a representative on the Directing Board. The Foundation provides training for leadership development of both lay and clergy persons of the Virginia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church in the areas of evangelism and preaching in the Wesleyan spirit.

Regional Discipling Network Teams

The main work of the Board of Discipleship takes place through five Regional Discipling Network Teams and a Conference Awareness Team.

The Regional Discipling Network Teams consist of:
• A Network Leader
• A cadre of 3-5 Coaches who are generalists trained on inclusive disciple-making systems that transform the communities in which they operate
• Resource persons, staff and/or thriving congregations identified by best practice research in the following areas.
